Saavn’s Story provides free streaming music to listeners, legally. The company holds licenses to content from T-Series , YRF Music and Sony etc. Saavn’s catalog includes over 2 million tracks in 77 languages. Saavn was founded as BODVOD networks in 2006 by Vin Bhat, Neal Shenoy, and Paramdeep Singh, in a partnership between New York-based parent company 212Media (also founded by Bhat, Shenoy, and Singh) and Schramm Sports & Entertainment.

The company’s signature products include, Saavn Music for iPhone, and Saavn Music for Android. Saavn shifted its core focus to become a music destination for fans of Bollywood and other Indic music in 2009, re-launching it flagship product,, with an improved user interface and faster, smarter search capabilities. offers free music search and streaming supported by display ads.

In its former incarnation as BODVOD Networks, Saavn was the first company to offer Bollywood content on demand on cable television and on iTunes. Since its inception, the company has partnered with several premier distribution platforms, including Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, and Verizon FiOS. In 2009, Saavn started distributing Bollywood films (with English subtitles) on Hulu, for online viewers in the USA. Saavn also partnered with YouTube to offer free, legal Bollywood films for global audiences online.

In 2010, was re-launched with an improved user interface, and faster, smarter search capabilities. This new website and its corollary mobile apps continue to be the company’s signature products today. In 2010, Saavn partnered with Google to offer its music streaming services to a broader audience on Google Music India. Saavn was selected in late 2011 to be Facebook’s first global partner and first Indian partner on the Open Graph platform.
